Puro Island in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur
If you love white sand beaches that are not crowded and without commercialized resorts, Puro Island in Magsingal, Ilocos Sur is one of the best choices. There are no cottages and establishments – only the island and the white sand beach.
Puro Island can be reached from Sabang Beach in Ilocos Sur. You need to rent a boat there and the travel time is around five to 10 minutes. We stayed in the island from 12 noon to 4PM and we have only paid 500 pesos for the boat rental. But of course, we should provide food for the boat drivers.

The Colorful Boats in Sabang Beach, Ilocos Sur

Puro Island as Seen from Sabang Beach
When we arrived in Puro Island, we were the only people there so it felt like we owned the whole island. The place was so quiet and peaceful and we could here all sounds of birds.
Though the sand in Puro Island is not as powdery as the sands in Malapascua Island and Camotes Island, I was really amazed with the crystal clear water. A lot of different kinds of fish can be seen even in the shallow part of the sea just be wearing goggles.Β I’ve been a fan of aquariums since I was in elementary and I’ve realized that it’s more fun watching fish swim in their natural habitat.
Fishermen usually catch fish late in the afternoon and at night. You can buy freshly caught seafood from them at very affordable prices. We’ve bought fresh rabbitfish and octopus from them.
As what they say, a picture speaks a thousand words so please enjoy the photos taken from the time we headed for the island until the time we went home.
We Should All Do Our Best in Preserving Puro Island

Trash Left by Others on Puro Island
We can enjoy the island for free (no entrance fee) so we should all do our share in protecting the island. Unfortunately, other guests just leave their trash in the island and carve their names on the rocks.
Nowadays, it’s so hard to find a good place where you don’t need to spend lots of money. If it gets destroyed, it’s still US who will suffer. So let’s become responsible Filipinos by picking up our trash and dispose them properly.
I hope that Puro Island will always stay free, beautiful and most of all, unaltered by humans.
That beach looks incredible beautiful. I definitely need to get to the Philippines one day!
I think that it is really good that you included the bit about trash at the end as well. It is important that we pick up after ourselves. We need to be responsible travelers. That is one of the things most important when traveling!
Cheers from EspaΓ±a!
Hi Andy. I wish that you could visit here soon. π We have lots of white sand beaches here that you’ll surely love especially if you’re a beach bummer.
And I hope that both the locals and travelers will do their best in preserving the island.
Thanks for visiting!
I’m just wondering if Puro Island is privateklt owned?, and how big is it in hectarage. Thanks.- Ernesto Y. Tolentino.
It’s not privately owned, there’s no entrance fee.
That water looks incredible! I’d love to be on that beach right now…
You should give the island a visit. π
Hello! Good Day! I just noticed your title. I am from Ilocos Sur and have been to this place. The island is located in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur. Although there is a Puro Island in Magsingal too, this one is the Puro island in Cabugao.
P.S. There is also Puro island in Caoayan, and another Puro island in Badoc, all in Ilocos! π Cheers and have fun! π
Hi there! Thanks for the corrections. I already updated the post. π

We are planning to go at this place, may I know what resort did you check-in at Cabugao, Ilocos Sur? We plan to stay at Monte Costa Resort.
I have friends in Cabugao so I just stayed at their place π
Ask ko lang po how much ang rent ng bangka papuntang puro island, ang ganda po And if wala po cottage san po kayo nag prepare ng foods? Planing to stay in vigan po sana then mag punta dito. Malayo po ba? Hehe thank you in advance po. God bless
I think we paid just around 500 pesos for the boat. There are no cottages so we just brought ready to eat food and ate under the trees. Cabugao is around 1 hour from Vigan.
its 30-45 mins. drive po from Vigan to Cabugao not totally one hour po. If Cabugao to Laoag naman probably 1hr and 45 mins po π
Hi po. Ask ko lang if san po ba tlaga to, sa cabugao or magsigal. And if may entrance din po ba sa sabang beach before mka-pasok para mkapunta po sa puro island. Salamat po
Hi Angge. This one is in Cabugao. There’s no entrance fee but you need to hire a boat to go to Puro Island.
Pwede po b overnight s island and safe po b
There’s no entrance fee so I think it’s okay to stay overnight in the island. It’s relatively safe.
